Tift County, Georgia
The Tift County seat, about nine miles up the road from our Omega office.
Tifton is the hub of Tift County: Interstate 75, ABAC and UGA’s Tifton campus, and a ring of homes and small acreage that keeps spreading out along the county roads. Inside the city, water comes from the utility. Out past it, toward Omega, Ty Ty and Chula, a private well is the water supply, and a lot of those wells were drilled for a farmhouse long before the new houses went up around it.
Tift County wells are typically drilled through the sand and clay at the surface and finished in the top of the limestone. Georgia’s geologic survey describes that cover as anything from under 50 feet to several hundred feet thick, and notes the limestone runs deeper across the southern part of the county. A good driller keeps a log of every layer, and that log is what sets the casing depth.
For new homes on land outside town, the order matters: the well site is planned around the septic system and the property lines, the permit comes from the Tift County Health Department, and then we drill. Call before you pour a slab and we’ll help you keep the well where it belongs.
Services in Tifton

No water, low pressure, a pump that won’t shut off: our service department diagnoses it and puts it right.
Tank change-outs, large and small, so the pump stops short-cycling and the pressure stays even.
Sand, rust, iron and sulfur smell: filtration systems installed, programmed and serviced.
Small pumps and water setups for deer land, food plots, gardens, barns and camps.
A look at the whole system after a storm, a flood, a long outage or before you buy a property with a well.
Before the site work starts. The well has to be placed with the right distance from the septic system, the house and the property lines, and the county permit comes before drilling. Our drilling calendar also books months ahead, so earlier is better.
Private wells are permitted and inspected locally through the county health department’s environmental health office; in Tift County, that’s the Tift County Health Department. Requirements and fees are set locally, and we’ll confirm them for your property.
If city water is available and you’re hooked up, that’s your supply. Out in the county, a properly built well into the Floridan gives most homes plenty of water; the trade-off is that you own the pump, tank and water quality, so test it and keep up the system.
