Colquitt County, Georgia
Colquitt County’s seat, and the center of the county we cover first.
Inside Moultrie, most homes are on city water, which itself comes from deep wells into the Floridan aquifer. Step outside the city limits, though, and nearly everyone is on a private well: farmhouses, new homes on county roads, shops, barns and the land out toward Funston, Doerun and Berlin. Colquitt County is one of Georgia’s big farming counties, and every October the Sunbelt Ag Expo at Spence Field brings that home.
Private wells around Moultrie draw from the same Floridan limestone as the city, through a cover of sand and clay. That water is plentiful, but it often carries iron, and some wells have the rotten-egg smell of hydrogen sulfide. UGA Extension estimates that 15 to 20 percent of Georgia private wells have high iron and manganese. We install and program filtration, including iron separators, for exactly that.
Farm properties bring their own jobs: a pump for a barn or a food plot, a second well for livestock, or a well that has to keep up in the dry part of summer. If you’re planning irrigation on a bigger scale, Georgia EPD requires a farm-use permit to withdraw more than 100,000 gallons a day, and we’ll point you toward that step before the rig shows up.
Services in Moultrie

No water, low pressure, a pump that won’t shut off: our service department diagnoses it and puts it right.
Tank change-outs, large and small, so the pump stops short-cycling and the pressure stays even.
Sand, rust, iron and sulfur smell: filtration systems installed, programmed and serviced.
Small pumps and water setups for deer land, food plots, gardens, barns and camps.
A look at the whole system after a storm, a flood, a long outage or before you buy a property with a well.
For a private household well, start with the Colquitt County Health Department’s environmental health office, which handles local well permits and inspections. Rules and fees are set locally, so we’ll confirm the current requirements for your property before drilling.
That’s usually iron, which is common in south Georgia groundwater. Above about 0.3 milligrams per liter it stains sinks, tubs and laundry. A water test tells you how much iron (and manganese) you have, and an iron filter or iron separator sized to that result fixes it.
If the farm will withdraw more than 100,000 gallons per day, yes: Georgia EPD requires a farm-use water withdrawal permit, and permitted withdrawals have to be metered. Smaller wells for a house, barn or garden don’t need that EPD permit, though the county may still require a well permit.
